Our new release - the Bang Bang Riddim - is out now, with vocal cuts from Slycer Treez, Shantha Roberts and Babascum.
Like it? Want it on vinyl?! Then buy the digital and we'll get it pressed! Unfortunatley the clusterfuck that is the UK leaving the EU has made it a bit tricky for the moment... poli-tricks.
Have a listen and buy via our online store.
Those paying attention may have noticed some changes going on... anyway, since the beginning of November we can officially say that we have expanded and modified our operations in the reggae business!
With Wayne now in London the sound system has morphed into something of a collective - as such still expect to find Argonaut Sounds selectas creating the vibe at venues (but now in both Glasgow AND London!), and our label will be based over both cities, and further afield, too. Sometimes a change is as good as a holiday, and this is gonna be an exciting new era!
More details to follow on gigs etc, but keep up to date by following us here, on facebook and a variety of other social media platforms.
Since February 2001 we have been privileged to host our Argonaut Sounds Radio Show on Subcity - and this Wednesday 14th October 2015 we present our final episode!
Expect two hours of the finest reggae music in all forms and varieties, some of the biggest tunes from the last few years, and others which have been favourites on the show since the days of just four episodes a year on FM. We’ll have as many of the crew in the studio as possible to bring the vibes, and we’ll probably reminisce over some of our “finest” moments. It’s gonna be fast and furious, ruff n’ tuff, and lawd a’ mercy, it may well run over.
So – for the final time – on air live Wednesday 8-10pm Subcity Radio, or listen back anytime…
Tonight sees the FINAL Dutchy Pot session at The 78 Cafe Bar!!!
Not far short of 4 and half years since it began, it’s gonna end in style… roots, dancehall, rub-a-dub and conscious vibes, and all the best tracks to have mashed up the place over the piece, inna strictly vinyl stylee!
Get down, fill yuh belly, buy out the bar, and get yuh dancin’ shoes on – we’ll be firing up the sound at 8pm sharp and it’ll be ruff an’ tuff from the start.
Big up all the reggae family in Glasgow who have made Thursdays such a pleasure!
Argonaut Sounds run t’ings fi years!
Our new release - the Link Slu Riddim - is out now on two limited edition, hand-numbered 7" vinyls and digital download! There's only 300 of each, so move quickly!
Both vinyls and digital formats are available now via our Online Store now, as well as various other online stores.
Details of each vinyl:

Babascum "We Are Rasta"
Link Slu Riddim Version
Things have been quiet on the label front for a wee while, but fear not... these test pressing arrived and we'll have somet'ing big to announce shortly!
We're gonna be winding our way down to Dubs Till Dawn - the new reggae and dub festival - on the weekend of 31st July/1st August.
This promises to be a huge weekend, with a great line-up, and in a excellent location near Bury.
We'd love for some of the Glasgow massive to join us, and are considering arranging a minibus down to the festival... so, anyone interested should contact us ASAP - either via our facebook page or at firstname.lastname@example.org - so we can gauge numbers and get on the case.
Big up everyone at Iona Village Hall Music Festival, especially the organizer Roddy - a fantastic wee festival! The vibes on Friday were heavy!
We have a new track out titled "Real Early" on our version of the Water Pumping Riddim, with vocals inna combination stylee from Babascum, Slycer Trees, Scratchy B and Shantha Roberts.
This track forms part of the charity album "Social Sounds From Planet Dub" and is available for download via basscomesaveme on bandcamp from 10/4/15 - 100% of proceeds contribute to the Kindersprachbrucke Jena E.V. project supporting refugee children in language skills, enabling them to access education and equal opportunities.
You can also hear the track (and then buy the album for as little as €5 via the link!) on our soundcloud.
Alternatively, the CD is available via our friends at Scotch Bonnet Records.
Big up Sereno Sounds and Basscomesaveme for the opportunity to contribute to this great project.
Big up everyone who supported us through to the runners-up spot in the soundclash last night, and big up all nine crews involved - nuff respect to winners P45.
Apologies for all the technical troubles at the event, although they were nothing to do with us! As much as we were happy to take part and pleased to represent Glasgow in the final, we can't hide our disappointment at how the whole event was run.
One thing we're not sure about… yuh can spend all yuh money on dubplates, but how can yuh be in a SOUNDclash if yuh nuh have a sound?
Big up everyone who has contributed to a fantastic year - all our guests, promoters, venues, brethren sounds, and everyone who has come to see us play.
In particular, nuff respect to: Macka B, Stalawa Sound, Jah Screechy, Fogata Sounds (Krak In Dub & Troy Berkley), Kelburn Garden Party, Ring The Alarm, Underground Roots, The 78 & all staff, The Poetry Club & all staff, Subcity Radio, The Art School, Wickerman Festival, Explosion Sound, Wee Dub Festival, Mungo's Hifi, Walk 'n' Skank, Scotch Bonnet Records, Slycer Trees, BJ, Scratchy B, Benji, Tenna Star, Shantha, Fada Dougou, Lutan Fyah, Wee Dub Festival, Synergy Concerts, Bass Warrior, Bass Alliance, The Rum Shack, JA Live, Rampant Sound, Celtic Connections, Rastavibes, Ernie B, Pushprint, AMK, Bert, Lofi Studios, Kieran, Owen, Celia, Mhairi, Caroline, and most of all to everyone who we have forgot to mention!
We're really pleased to announce a late plan for a proper Hogmanay session - we're teaming up with Bass Warrior and Bass Alliance to run t'ings at The African Art Centre in Ibrox... till 6am!
Tickets are £10 advance, £15 on the door, and there's more info on the events page.
We're supporting the legendary Lee "Scratch" Perry at SWG3 on Saturday 29th November, and we're pleased to announce we have a limited number of discounted tickets for sale - full price is £25, but we can take 40% off that, so link us up - either at The Dutchy Pot every Thursday at The 78, via email (email@example.com), or on Facebook.
Event details available here.
Out today on Argonaut Sounds Productions - the Sweet Cherry Riddim! Featuring cuts from a quartet of St Lucian vocalists (our own Babascum, Slycer Trees, Scratchy B, and Benji), as well as a cover version by Shantha Roberts, the tracks are available via digital download only.
Download your copies via our online store on a "pay what you want" basis - no minimum!
Shantha's version is available for free via our soundcloud.
Unfortunately we have to report that One Love Festival does not honour its commitments to pay its artists. Despite repeated attempts to contact the festival organizer we had no response until today, when we received several emails filled with pure lies and insults, suggesting it was our fault we didn't pick up our modest fee (not even enough to cover travel expenses), even though we followed the instructions we were given to the letter.
As event promoters ourselves, we have always prided ourselves on treating our guests with respect and honesty. Similarly when we play at events we hope for, and almost always receive, the same in return.
We advise all artists/DJs/sound systems to be cautious when dealing with One Love Festival.
Check out a brand new version on our Outta Hand Riddim, "Mind Your Self", by Fada Dougou and the legendary Lutan Fyah.
The track is available for legal download here.
Remember the original release is still available via our online store.
Even with a busy summer of festivals and whatnot ahead, we're still gonna find time to squeeze in a couple of sound system sessions at our home venue, The Poetry Club.
The first session will be on Friday 11th July when we are delighted to announce our special guest will be Jah Screechy, one of the finest MCs in the UK, famous for his barnstorming version on the Answer riddim "Walk and Skank".
More info is available on our events page.
The second session later in the summer will be on Friday 29th August - more details to come on that one.
Out now - our new release on Argonaut Sounds Productions, the Outta Hand Riddim, with four tracks over two limited edition 7"s and digital download:
#ASP002: Tenna Star "Hold The Faith" / Argonaut Sounds "Outta Hand Riddim"
#ASP003: Babascum "Give A Damn Bout Dem" / Slycer Trees & BJ "The Right Thing"
Both the vinyls and downloads are available from our Online Store, as well as all the usual contenders (Scotch Bonnet, Rastavibes, Dub Store, iTunes, Amazon, and many more)...
Big up everyone who made it down to the Poetry Club last night, and big ups and nuff respect to Macka B - what a session!
Thanks also to The Poetry Club - what a great atmosphere - and our door staff - Mhairi and Frederic on the box office, and Barney on the door.
We return on Saturday 15th March.
We're delighted to announce our second release on label Argonaut Sounds Production - the Outta Hand Riddim, featuring vocal cuts by Tenna Star, Babascum, and Slycer Trees & BJ, available on two limited edition 7" vinyls and digital download from 3rd March 2014.
There's more info to follow, but in the meantime check out the promo mix on soundcloud or youtube.
Wayne has written an Introduction To Reggae article for the Bookshelf Boyfriend website giving an short overview of the development of the music and its different sub-genres - check it out here:
Read a long interview with Wayne here - all about the early sound system scene in Glasgow, reggae music in europe, and about the role the internet played in the growing popularity of sound system culture, amongst other things.
After a long break since our last sound system session at Blackfriars, we're delighted to announce that we've found a new venue, The Poetry Club, and that our first dance there will take place on Saturday 15th February 2014, with special guest Macka B!
Macka B is truly a legend of reggae music, both in the UK and further afield, with a string of classic records to his name working with Ariwa, and performing all over the world, including appearances at Reggae Sunsplash and Rebel Salute in Jamaica. His last album "Change The World", released in 2012, was one of our favourite albums of the year. We're delighted to welcome him to our sound system for a proper session, particularly after his short cameo at Blackfriars in November 2011.
The Poetry Club will we hope provide the base for our sound system nights over the next while - its a great venue, located next to the SWG3 complex on Eastvale Place. Capacity is limited - which should make for a great atmosphere - and entry will only be £5 as usual, so get down early as tickets will not be sold in advance.
Big up all the Dutchy Pot crew - just so you know (and in spite of what it says on the events bar), there will be no Dutchy Pot on December 26th (Boxing Day) as The 78 is closed.
However, we'll be back on January 2nd, and to make up for missing one week we're pleased to have a special one-off - a Dutchy Pot and Walk & Skank mash up. Rolling back the years to Dub-n-Grub, we'll have Mungo's Hifi guesting at The 78, while afterwards we'll head along to the Berkeley Suite where Argonaut Sounds are guests... promises to be the best way to get 2014 started. There won't be food available at The 78 (the kitchen will be closed), so instead we'll clear some tables away and get a proper dancehall going.
Friday 6th December we'll be supporting Dreadzone at Oran Mor on Byres Road.
More details on the events page.
We delighted to announce that over the coming months we'll be taking over duties at Jammin' Jamaica Street, the free monthly night at MacSorleys. First date is Saturday 12th October, and we'll have the full Argonaut Sounds sound system to nice up the dance.
Catch Wayne spinning some tunes at MacSorleys this Sunday, 7-11pm, with the Fire In Babylon crew firing up their Roots Kitchen from 1pm.
Catch us this weekend at Doune The Rabbit Hole - this year its being held at Cardross Estate, tickets on sale via the website.
We're really proud to be providing the sound and spinnin' records at MacSorleys on Wednesday 17th July, when legendary vocalist Half Pint will be in Glasgow town.
Half Pint has always been one of our favourite artists and this promises to be an absolutely unmissable session. We'll have the full Argonaut Sounds rig out, and will be setting the scene with DJ Caroline 'longside.
More info on the events page.
Big thanks to everyone who made it down to Blackfriars last Friday, and big up Earl Gateshead - great tunes, fantastic vibes, top selecta!
We can announce that Friday was our last session at Blackfriars - after 3 years there, during which time we have welcomes some great nights and brilliant guests, its time to move on to something fresh... As usual we won't be having any regular sound system dances over the summer, but we do have plenty other things planned, so keep your eyes peeled.
Diaries at the ready... May 17th @ Blackfriars we welcome legendary selecta Earl Gateshead of Trojan Sound System to Argonaut Sounds.
More details are available on our events page, but its safe to say this promises to be a mad session, with one of the most respected selectas in reggae in attendance.
Thursday 4th April is the big day - the release date for our first single on our new label Argonaut Sounds Productions, Babascum's "Down Inna Di Ghetto", available on limited edition 7" vinyl and digital download!
You can get hold of a copy (vinyl and mp3s) direct from us at our Online Shop on bandcamp, or the same way via facebook. This way more of the price (£4.50 for 7" vinyl, £0.80 per mp3) goes direct to the label meaning you can help towards future releases!
Of course we'll also have nuff copies on sale at The Dutchy Pot Single Launch Special this Thursday, and at our next few dances.
Alternatively, we're happy to say there are several online stores stocking the single, including our friends at Scotch Bonnet, Champion Sound Records, Rastavibes.net, Rockersuptown.de, and Dub Store, amongst others.
For those who prefer the record store vibe of flicking through records, you can also pick up a copy at Love Music (formerly Avalanche, Dundas St) and Monorail Music (King's Court).
For digi-killers, the MP3 is available from all the usual outlets, including iTunes/Amazon/etc, as well as on our bandcamp (link above) in a variety of digital formats.
Our first single on our label Argonaut Sounds Production comes out on Thursday 4th April, so we're turning The Dutchy Pot that night into a single launch special!
As well as spinnin' the single, Babascum will be in attendance to give a live performance, and we'll showcase some of the tracks we have earmarked for future releases. We'll also have nuff copies of the single available on 7" on the night obviously...
Hungry? As always The 78's kitchen will be turning out some top notch grub at the usual price (starter £2 / main £5 / dessert £2) from 5pm, while Argonaut Sounds set up the sound and get the party going from 8pm.
Argonaut Sounds run t'ings fi years...
We're proud to announce the launch of our label - Argonaut Sound Productions - and the release of our first single - Babascum's "Down Inna Di Ghetto" - on limited edition 7" vinyl and digital download on 4th April 2013!
The promo mix of the single is up on our music page, and there will be more info regarding sales outlets, the launch party, etc to follow in the coming weeks.
The single, an upbeat one-drop number, features our resident MC Babascum on vocals, with Shantha on backing vocals duty, and was produced by Wayne.
We're really proud to be starting our new label - we're already plotting future releases - and hope it can add a new dimension to the vibrant reggae scene in Glasgow and beyond.
We'll be supporting roots icons Culture at the ABC2 on Sunday 24th march.
Truly one of the pioneering outfits in roots reggae, recording several seminal albums with Joe Gibbs, these days Culture are fronted by Kenyatta Hill since the death of his father, the legendary Joseph Hill.
This will be the third time we've supported Culture, and every show has been absolute top quality. More details are available on the events page, as well as links for tickets.
Tonight's the night - we've got the sound system out for our first dance of the year at Blackfriars, and we're delighted to welcome Brother Culture as our guest MC on the sound!
No-one wants to miss this crucial session - t'ings a run 11pm-3am, and its only £3 before midnight/£5 after.
The Wee Dub Festival 2013 kicks off tonight and runs throughout the weekend - its always one of the highlights of the year for reggae in Scotland, and the line-up for 2013 features some stellar names performing in various venues around Edinburgh.
Full details are available on the events page, but you can catch us 'longside Mungo's Hifi ft. YT, Prince Fatty ft. MC Horseman and Big Toes Hifi on Sunday night at The Caves.
We're happy to announce that our guest for our first sound system night of 2013, on Friday 15th February at Blackfriars Basement, will be the legendary MC Brother Culture.
Apologies for the late notice, but we wanted to make our first outing of the year is a special night, and we're sure its gonna be just that. More details on the events page.
A note on our pricing: the observant amongst our faithful will have notice that we've increased our entry price to £3 before midnight/£5 after - we do this somewhat reluctantly; however, to continue to attract top guests and guarantee the sound system continues to grow it is unfortunately necessary. We're committed to keeping our entry price as low as we possibly can, and on the plus side, you can still get in for £3 if you're down nice n' early!
Some photos up from our night at Blackfriars in November last year - thanks to Simon for these!
For your listening pleasure: special episode of the radio show presented by Wayne, reviewing the very best in new reggae music from 2012 - what a year its been, with nuff top riddims featuring artists such as Busy Signal, Capleton and Anthony B... Two hours jam-packed with the finest reggae vibes out this year.
If 2013 is half as good we're in for a belter...
Available now for listen back at Subcity Radio
Brand new track by Shantha up on our music page, entitled "Comin' & Goin", on the Argonaut Sounds produced Peggy riddim.
Recorded using an original 80's Casiotone MT40 (of Sleng Teng fame), its got a much more digital feel than some of the other recent material we've been putting out.
We hope to have several more tracks ready soon, and aim to launch an Argonaut Sounds label in the near future.
Our Youtube Channel is finally up and running, or more accurately, we've put some content on it - a couple of short videos, including one from the Psychedelic Forest Carnival last weekend.
We're back on air for Argonaut Sounds Radio Show on Subcity tonight! Starting our 12th year on the station, we've decided to take it a little easier this year, and will be doing a show fortnightly rather than every week.
On this episode we'll be catching up on all the riddims released over the summer, and paying tribute to the reggae artists who have sadly passed away in the last few months.
On air 8-10pm, or listen back anytime @ subcity.org.
We had, to paraphrase Neil, a "mad laugh" at Garance Reggae Festival 2012 - here's a photo of Dugald meeting Mr Vegas, who had just put in a stunning performance on the main stage, taken by Agathe.
Garance is truly where it's at - here's another of Agathe's photos, this one of Wayne meeting legendary producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee, he of flying cymbals fame.
Check out more of Agathe's camera work here.
Last camping opportunity of 2012 in Scotland - catch us at the Psychedelic Forest Party on Saturday 15th September, details on the events page.
Up on Youtube is a great wee video from our 10 Years of Argonaut Sounds Party - nuff respect to Johnathon Allison for producing it for us!
Some of you might have noticed a few subtle changes going on aboard the Argonaut Sounds ship in the last few weeks, and for the avoidance of any doubt, we're delighted to welcome a couple of additions to our crew, Dugald and Agathe.
Dugald has been getting involved in the schemin' side of things for a couple of months, as well as spinnin' a fine selection of new roots and dancehall, while Agathe has made a couple of excellent appearances at The Dutchy Pot, with much more to come we hope!
We've posted up a few photos from our 10 Year Party on the pics page - there's a few folk we'd like to thank:
- Simon for his top paparazzi work
- Our excellent MCs Vins, Kenny and Shantha
- Everyone who made it down to the night, it really was a fantastic vibe.
- All our guests and everyone who has helped us out over the last 10 years - too many to mention, but you know who you are!
We'll be back at Blackfriars with our sound system in September, but until then we've got various things in the pipeline over the summer, and as always we'll be at The 78 for The Dutchy Pot every Thursday night.
Argonaut Sounds run t'ings fi years!
Check out our 10 Year Birthday photo album on our pics page, featuring photos from a variety of events over the last decade - its been up on our facebook page for a couple of days, and has been attracting a lot of attention... Our 10th Birthday celebrations culminate with the party at Blackfriars this Friday 15th June (more info on the events page).
